Q: Why take a class with Emergency Science.org?
A: There's no question that many organizations offer CPR classes to the public. The difference with Emergency Science.org is that you get the experience of an Emergency Medical Technician who's performed CPR in the field. Additionally, you get a small class size, personal attention and additional material not covered in most vendor training class outlines.
Many organizations that offer CPR classes allow up to 10-20 people to particpate - which is a mistake. CPR classes require a low instructor to participant ratio.
Q: What courses do you offer and how much does it cost to take a class with Emergency Science.org?

Q: What do I get for the price of the class?
A: First, you get the AHA official training class designed for people like you! The class is instructor-led and contains extensive DVD-based training and extensive hands-on exercises. Additionally, you get the official training manual, in the case of the AHA certification classes, you'll get an official certification card as well as quick reference materials. As a special gift I also include a high-quality, travel CPR mask for each participant. A significant portion of our business is based on referrals. We are committed to providing you and your participants with a comprehensive, knowledgeable and enjoyable experience.
Q: How many people can attend a scheduled session?
A: The most effective training presentations are those with a low participant to instructor ratio. Our classes allow a maximum of up to five particpants per session. We do this for a number of reasons. The more people you have in a class, the more questions you can expect. Also, there is a direct relationship to the number of participants and the amount of potential distractions.
Additionally, we like to keep the training participant to manikin ratio at 1:1 meaning every participant gets to use their own manikin during class without having to share. This also reduces the amount of time the class takes because it removes the need to sanitize the manikins between each participant's use.
If you have a larger group, please contact us.
Q: What's the youngest person you would allow in a class?
A: Typically, maturity is more of a concern than age. Through our experiences, we've found that children 12 and older have no problems understanding the content and are able to stay engaged for the duration of the presentation. We've taught many babysitters and all of them did great in the class!
Q: What if I'm not in good physical shape?
A: Performing CPR takes physical strength and can be demanding. Pushing on someone's chest at a rate of 100 compressions per minute isn't easy. However, learning CPR isn't as demanding as "the real thing". Everyone is encouraged to take the class and participate. A person that's not in peak physcial shape or has physical limitations can still help and can, in most cases, help prolong a person's life until the next level of care (or someone else trained in CPR) arrives. If you're unsure whether or not you can complete the class (physically), you should contact your physician and ask for guidance.
Q: What are your credentials?
A: I am a New York State Emergency Medical Technician who currently volunteers 300 hours per year with Commack Ambulance on Long Island. In addition to being an EMT I am certified to dispatch and drive an ambulance.
Additionally, I am a certified American Heart Association instructor affiliated with Suffolk County Emergency Medical Services as well as a National Safety Council (NSC) certified trainer.
I have performed CPR in the field three times.
Q: How do I buy a gift certificate as a present?
A: Our classes are very popular as presents! We offer gift certificates that are perfect for baby showers, expecting parents and families of every size. Contact us using the website or call: (516) 297-9000 and we can make the necessary arrangements. Our gift certificates are professionally printed and can be sent to the purchaser or directly to the recipient with any message you like. When purchasing gift certificates it's not necessary to schedule the specific class date/time.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: Cancellations (with full refunds and/or no penalty) will only be accepted up to five business days prior to a scheduled class. Any classes rescheduled within the five business day period will incur a 20% penalty. Our intention isn't to make money on cancellations but to simply deter people from cancelling. Cancellations usually mean that revenue can't be generated on a given day - a day many of our other clients may have chosen had it been originally available.
Q. How long do classes typically take?
See above for each class description.
Q. Will I receive a course completion card?
A: For the Friends and Family class, we issue an Emergency Science.org completition card... For virtually all other classes, we issue American Heart Association cards.
Q: How can I contact you if I have anymore questions?
A: You can use our contact page (see the link at the top of this page) or call us at (516) 297-9000
